Organic Planter white&gold

We decided to make a limited edition of planters, made of algae.

The alginic acid, also called algin, is a polysaccharide widely present in the cell walls of brown algae. Dentists use it to make dental casts but, when the alginate has expired, they are forced to throw it away. So, we decided to recover the expired alginate. Because, even if it’s no longer usable for casts, it can be a wonderful material for a design project. Each planter is different and unique. As alginate tends to shrink and has to lose all the water, we left it to dry for about four months: in this way, we gave it the shape we desire. This is how our planters were born.
